I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at our third book club meeting on the 7th of November (tomorrow!). What follows are some questions based upon chapters 1-6 that might add to our discussion. We'd love to hear what you have to say! Or, you can save your thoughts for our meeting!
ReplyDelete1) Describe Aibileen. What do you know about her work ethic? Which task brings her the most joy? How do you know?
2) Describe Elizabeth Leefolt's parenting style. How does she treat Mae Mobley? Why might she have had a baby in the first place?
3) How does Aibileen feel about Mrs. Leefolt's treatment of Mae Mobley? Is there anything she can do about it? Explain why or why not.
4) What enormous loss has Aibileen experienced? Explain.
5) What is going on with the bathroom in the "carport" for Aibileen? Is it difficult to read about this treatment, espcially when it's not that long ago? Explain.
6) How is Aibileen seen by her employers? How do you feel about this? Does this seem odd in this day and age? Or do you think people are still seen or treated in this manner?
7) What motivates Aibileen to work with Miss Skeeter? Think about the risks for a moment. Will it be worth it if she gets caught? Why or why not?
